Thai Turkey Burger with Thai Slaw
A well seasoned Thai Turkey Burger and Slaw
Ingredients
- Burgers
- 1 pound 90% lean ground turkey
- 2 green onions thinly sliced
- ¼ cup shredded carrots chopped
- 4 whole wheat buns
- Thai Sauce
- ½ cup sweet chili sauce
- ⅓ rice vinegar
- ¼ cup lite canned coconut milk
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons crushed garlic
- 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
- 1 teaspoon crushed garlic
- 1 lime juiced
- ½ tablespoon soy sauce
- ½ cup of peanut sauce
- Slaw
- 2 cups of the bagged slaw
- ½ cup chopped carrots
Instructions
- Combine all of the ingredients for the sauce (sweet chili sauce, rice vinegar, coconut milk, brown sugar, crushed garlic, peanut butter, ginger, lime juice and soy sauce, whisk until it is combined and smooth. Remove ¼ cup of the sauce and set aside. Cook the rest in a saucepan, bringing it to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened. Set aside.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey with the salt, pepper, sliced green onions, chopped shredded carrots and 2-3 tablespoons of the ¼ cup of sauce you set aside. Mix until just combined. Do not over mix but be sure it is all incorporated.
- You will not be able to put these burgers on the grill. They tend to be too soft. I cooked mine in a non stick skillet over medium heat. I added approximately a tablespoon of oil to the pan before I added the patties to cook so they wouldn't stick. I cooked them for 4 minutes each side. Flip gently.
- To make the slaw, put the slaw and the chopped carrots in a bowl. Add 3-4 tablespoons of the sauce, then toss well to coat.
- Place burger patty on a bun, top with a heaping spoonful of the slaw and additional sauce if desired or make it low carb friendly and put the patty on a heap of the slaw.
I absolutely LOVE Thai food! I love the coconut milk mixed with the peanut butter and the Thai spices in this Thai Turkey Burgers recipe! Of course I love hamburgers too so what a great combo! I love cabbage salad but it must have some good sauce and this recipe does.
The great thing about this recipe is that if you are eating a high protein, low carb diet you can eat this and if you aren't? You can STILL eat it. It has some GREAT flavor!
